Lennon's 'Imagine'...lacked Imagination

With his song, Imagine, John Lennon successfully got generations to downplay the significance of religion, heaven, and replace it with the corporation, the whims and fancies of these millionaire celebs, like himself, as the final arbiters of truth.

Putting it really simply, 'no heaven' focuses one on 'here and now'. 'No religion' disables moral questionings, and subjects moral evolution to the capitalist-corporate-celeb-led apetites.  And this would be especially the case in a highly-sexualised, celeb-worshipping, and capitalist elite-led environment like the west was, and is grossly so today.

All that is left is the corporation and celeb as moral, spiritual and intellectual beacons.  What you get at the end is an imagination free of thought and perpective that opposes the will of the corporation and the media.  It is actually quite a tricky constellation for the untrained eye to interconnect and decipher.  But it's there for those who truly prize their individuality so as to not be led by the nose by these shallow celebs, and truly care about the progress of, and maximal development of humanity despite our evils, and NOT in celebration of it.

Lennon was a legacy and promoter of the west's gradual degeneration into hedonism, consumerism, and celeb-worship, and which has reached its apogee at present with the west's psychotic penchant for gore, shaky cameras, and sexual LGBT depravity.  He couldn't see beyond his own region's white supremacist cultural hegemony that was a legacy of the colonial age. He, like just about all white people, couldn't appreciate reality through any angle other than their own, and yet actually had the audacity to lecture us through his shallow song.

He, predictably, didn't realise that ridding human civilisation of religion was another neo-colonial and white supremacist effort at demeaning much of non-western cultural, religious, philosphical, and spiritual history - much of which, the white man, like Lennon, couldn't and can't even begin to fathom and feel.

Hence, Lennon was a self-serving, self-worshipping, hedonistic, white supremacist who failed to appreciate that the wealth of the west's knowledge is paired by his and their ignorance of the rest of the 70% or so of humanity's histories, cultures, and wisdoms.  Accessing a 'yogi' or two to get high with is not going to alleviate them of that condition.

With the wealth of such ignorance, there is only so much they are going to understand about any culture unless they set aside their culturally inbred perspectives.  How on earth are such a people going to imagine away religion when they know next to nothing about it?

If all religious symbols are to be hidden, it turns those symbols that do not have to be hidden into religious relics - prada, nike, porshe, rolex, wealth, greed, manchester united......

Ours is not to question after whether Heaven or God exists, but to work to deserve admittance into it.  It is that degree of humility and self-doubt that is required to open our vision to the heavens above, and in our hearts.

The most important thing this Lennon didn't realise is that Atheism is a logical impossibility. You can take God off the Altar, but you can't take the Altar of the human experience.

Choose your God wisely.
